The equipment your bakery needs

Blog

The art of baking has evolved rapidly over the years. Today, almost every part of the baking process is automated. The right bakery equipment will give you great efficiency and productivity.

Ovens

  • Convection ovens - These bake loaves and cakes quite well, and they use fans to distribute heat, which bakes the cakes and bread more evenly.
  • Stone deck ovens - They bake dough to a hard outer crust and a nice, soft inside. They are used to bake artisan bread.
  • Rack ovens - These are built to bake in large quantities. They can bake several items simultaneously.
  • Revolution ovens - They use revolving trays and can bake different things at the same time. They come with a window through which you can monitor the progress.

The racks and trays in ovens are built to withstand high temperatures and should be replaced with the right trays as instructed by the manufacturer.

Other equipment

  • Mixers - They prepare dough in readiness for baking. They mix the ingredients and make the dough uniform and come in different sizes for different capacities.
  • Proof boxes - They are made to provide the right atmosphere for the dough to rise. On the contrary, retarder units prevent the dough from rising until when you want to let it rise.
  • Storage racks - They hold the baked stuff during and after the baking process. They hold pans for storage, cooling and freezing where necessary.
  • Refrigerator - This is for preservation of the goodies you have baked.
  • Dishwasher - This will make washing the baking pans and other untinsels easier.

What to consider when choosing equipment

  • Scale of operation -This will help you choose the equipment designed to handle baking at the scale you are working. A big oven that can bake five hundred loaves at a go will be a waste of space and money if you plan to bake forty loaves in a day.
  • Specialization - Do you intend to bake a variety of products or is your specialty cakes for celebrations? Choose equipment based on what you are baking.
  • Budget - In case of budgetary constraints, there is some equipment that is not as vital in the production process. You might put off buying a dishwasher until business picks up or until you save enough money.

When buying the proper equipment for your bakery, go to a licensed dealer who has warranties, money back policies and repair service terms on the equipment. This will help you get the best quality.

Finding the Perfect Finger Foods

Hello, welcome to my new blog! My name is Jackie and I recently threw an amazing party for my husband's 40th birthday. I invited friends and family from across the country so I had to cater for 250 people. When we have smaller parties, I normally take care of the food myself with a little help from my daughters. However, this time we decided to call in a professional food service company. The staff were great, the food was tasty and I learnt an awful lot of cool tips and tricks from them. I decided to start this blog to offer advice to others. I hope you enjoy it.
